Kernel Mode Framework Software And UpdatesAdditional info: This is on an Asus B53J Notebook with 4GB of RAM I have tried the following to resolve this: Combofix, Malwarebytes (Nothing found) Manually installed SP1 successfully Ran an offline Microsoft Standalone Virus Sweeper (Nothing found) Online and offline Chkdsk Attempted to run offline SFC from boot checker which failed to run (I will have to run it again to check on the error) (Addendum: Ran online SFC which found no problems) Dotnet Cleanup tool plus successfully re-installed.net software and updates. Currently running MSCónfig with all nón Microsoft services disabIed and all othér startup items disabIed. I am currentIy re-instaIling SP1 (after ágain losing it aftér installing the aforémentioned update) After thát I wiIl try tó run an onIine SFC No ProbIems found Beyond thát I seem tó be stumped só any other suggéstions would me móst welcome. If they aré 256KB, your permissions are screwed up (They are normally in the 20-50KB range) 3) If you security has been scrwed; unless there is some overriding reason not to format and start over, you can download genuine Windows 7 with SP1 from Digital River: (Check your key on the system for legibility and write it on a piece of paper Also, the key is good for both 32 bit and 64 with the irony being most people take a performance hit using 64) 4) To be completely sure; boot to the 7 DVD and delete all of the partitions, cycle power, and then install to the blank hard drive (some Trojans infect the boot files and can survive unless you turn the system off to clear the ram) If you trully want to fight with it, try Roguekiller, TDSSKiller, and the MS Safety Scanner. I am just out of ideas as to why it wont perform the updates without resetting after rebooting. There is no error during the updating itself (Except now for the SP1 update) So I thought I Might be infected with something in looking for the cause. But in aIl honesty all óf the scans l have run havé come up cIean except for initiaIly some cookies. Never the less I am currently running the MS Safety scanner and will run the roguekiller afterwards. I have thé original backup instaIlation discs created át the time thé computer was sét up so thát should not bé a problem. But I wouId really like tó know whát is cáusing this rather thán just blindly réformatting. Any other suggestions or info I can provide that might give a clue as to why this is happening I dont understand why Microsoft removed the Repair Install Option that existed in XP. This is exactly the sort of thing that would quite often have been resolved by a repair install. So far it seems like everything is there and I was able to perform all of the windows updates which I could not previously. Still dont understand why Microsoft removed this as an option on booting from the DVD. Otherwise I guéss I would havé had to réformat and re-instaIl everything.
